Nicholas Young's Siblings that
need to be Documented
Three of Nicholas Young's siblings have not yet been documented in U.S. records. Please contact me if you have relevant information.
- Charles Auguste Jung/Young was born July 02, 1835 in Rohrbach-les-bitche, Moselle, Lorraine, France. According to French records, he was living in the U.S. in 1855, but we do not know where. We do not know if he went by Charles or Auguste in U.S. records; however, the name August or Augustus appears 4 times in the other families. The name Charles is never used by the other immigrants when naming their children. This suggests that he may have gone by Augustus.
- Marie Anne Jung/Young was born April 1, 1843 in Rohrbach. Presumably she immigrated to the U.S. A death record in France has not been found. We do not know where she lived. Family papers say that her name may have been May. Several of the immigrant families used the name May/Mae when naming their children.
The 1860 federal census shows Susanna Young (Nicholas Young's sister) and her husband George Peter Specht living in New Orleans next door to a girl named Mary Campbell and her husband James. Mary and James had married about two weeks prior to the census. Mary's maiden name is Young. Mary Young Campbell's age and French birth location are consistent with the sibling born Marie Anne Jung whom we are trying to find in U.S. records. I suspect that she is ours, but I have not documented that yet. A request for their Catholic marriage record has been placed at the New Orleans Archdiocesean Archives. At the time of this writing, that record had not yet arrived.
- Jean Victor Jung/Young was born Nov. 14, 1847 in Rohrbach. He was the youngest child of Jean Jung and Jeanne Eb/Epp. I have suspected, but have not documented, that he died as a child. Nicholas Young's daughter reported to my grandfather in her 1964 letter that her father Nicholas was the youngest child in his family (see Estella's letter page 1, 2, 3). This leads me to believe that Nicholas was the youngest living child in the family, and that Jean Victor most likely died in childhood. More research is needed. If you know, please contact me.
- Could there have been a Young relative who lived in Poplar Bluff, Missouri? If you know, please contact me.
