Peter August Young
Peter August Young was born Pierre Jung 15 Feb. 1839 in Rohrbach-les-bitche, Moselle, Alsace-Lorraine, France to Jean/Johann Jung and Jeanne Eb/Epp. The birth date recorded in French records is consistent with that reported in U.S. records. According to 1900 census, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1851; according to the 1910 census, it was 1852. On Sept. 04, 1873, a Justice of the Peace married Peter August Young and Margaret Schantz in New Orleans (see marriage record). His parents names are listed on this record. They had 7 children in New Orleans (see family group sheet), one of whom died as an infant. Many of their children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren remained in New Orleans. Peter died May 02, 1910 in New Orleans (see death certificate, see obituary). His wife, Margaret Schantz Young, died April 04, 1928 (see obituary). MENTIONS IN FAMILY LETTERS Peter August Young, his children, and some of his grandchildren are mentioned in several family letters.
AUGUST, HIS MIDDLE NAME Peter August Young consistently used his middle name August in U.S. records even though that middle name does not appear to be apart of his birth name. The same is true for his brother Nicholas Augustus Young. He too consistently used his middle name or initial, even though it was not apart of his birth name. They also have a brother named Charles Auguste.
