Family Letters Estella Young Carwile and Maggie Young Duncan, daughters of Nicholas Young and Mahala Carter, wrote to their Young cousins in Oregon and New Orleans. Nicholas and Mahala wrote to their children, and Nicholas also corresponded with his siblings. All the letters linked to this page, with the exception of Estella's letter which was written to my grandfather, were preserved by Estella and handed down to her great granddaughter (see contributors). Many family names, events, and relationships are exchanged in the letters. To assist the reader in understanding the context of the letters, I have provided additional links to family group sheets, photos, obituary images, etc. One of the challenges will be to keep the families straight; the matter is complicated by the fact that many individuals share the same names. The names Peter, Thomas, Nicholas, John, Anna, are common.
